Casa Rei is a beach lodge situated on the North shore of the Pomene Estuary +-650km North of Maputo 50km off the main road between Maxixe and Vilonculos.The Estuary is nursery to an abundance of Sea Life, Flamingos and the occasional sighting of very rare Dugong with kilometers of tidal water washing through untouched mangrove swamps.
Access to 30km of uninhabited coastline stretching to the North, A multitude of fishing sites within an easy cast from the shore where game fish are regularly taken including the warrior Ignoblis Kingfish and the feisty King Mackerel “Cuta”
If Skiboat fishing is your passion or Scuba diving your pleasure, all reefs are within a 20 minute boat ride with depths coming up to 6 meters and dropping of to 200 meters and beyond only miles of the coast line. Billfish, Wahoo, Dorado, to challenge your angling skills and Whale Shark, Grouper, Manta Ray and Turtle to please the eye in world-class dive sites.
Between all that Fishing and Diving you may choose to partake in the more surreal activity of Birding with the flocks of Flamingo, Lilacbreasted Rollers rolling around the woodland, Crested Guineafowl foraging around the coastal bush, sightings of Saddlebilled Stork in the shallows and the familiar cry of the Fish Eagle out of the blue yonder above. Many a lifer claimed here.
Should you fancy yourself as a wax foot or merely a sponger, Pomene Point offers one of the longest sand bottom righthand point waves you will ever experience or if you prefer the A-frame wedges in board shorts and no one hustling you other than your fellow rent a crowd, enjoy!If all this is to busy for you, maybe you one of us, who just wants to get away from it all and experience Africa the way it should be, why not pay us a visit.

Beach Camp
You have a choice of 6 camps situated on the waters edge of the Estuary comprising of sleeping lapas two to a lapa, open living area lapa fitted with dinning table and chairs, separate kitchen, freestanding toilet and fire warmed bucket shower. Can accommodate from 8 to 14 each camp.
These camps are all supplied with your camping requirements including cutlery and crockery. This is for those that want that camping experience with a few modern comforts.Each camp includes the services of a local employee.

We have a number of privately owned chalets to rent. These are either three or four bedroom chalets with estuary behind and beach in front. Fully furnished just bring your own linen.
This is for the fairer guests who enjoy that African experience with the more homely comforts. A resident local employee will take away all those chores to make your stay a carefree relaxing experience for all.
Area Attractions
Fishing:
The estuary offers a full range of species taken on fly or light tackle from Grunter, Kingfish, Cuta, Bonefish too name but a few. With over 20 square kilometers of tidal water to explore. Kingies are prone to small spoons or light coloured clouser flys, while Mangrove red Snapper cant resist small plugs offered to them along the peat banks and a fresh live bait always produces the goods.
From the shore larger spoons and plugs will have you anchored into some solid Kingfish and Cuta, with the lighter tackle hooked into the never say die Pompano. Kite fishing is an option with Billfish taken in the old days from the Pomene Rocks. One of my favorites is fishing for Stumpnose into the rising moon with the setting sun at your back using crab legs or the ever-present sea lice.
You may prefer to patrol the back line on one of the Fishing Surfskis available to hire or bring your own. Again the gamefish are at your beck and call.
Pomene Skiboat fishing must be one of the worlds best destinations with the Mozambique Channel closer to the coastline then anywhere else along the African coast. The Gamefish species are prolific from Tuna to Wahoo to Billfish all within a stone throw from the back line to no more then 6 miles out to sea. Bring your own boat or speak to your Host about hiring his boat and his 50 years of local knowledge. Please release what doesnt make the pot!
Diving:
Snorkeling in and around the submerged tree stumps in the Estuary you will enjoy sightings of Firefish, Angelfish, Stonefish, Shrimpfish, Sea Horse, the list goes on!
A days outing to Pomene Point and the rock pools will have you swimming amongst baitfish washed over on the high tide waiting the next tide to escape again into the predator's jaws over the ledge.
The local Dive School offers scuba charters at a nominal rate where you will hear and probably utter the words yourself; Awesome!!,Amazing!!, As good as any where in the world and that is saying something!!
Kite Boarding:
Possible all year round, larger kites for the fairer days December through January,3 out of 7 days around 15knts in the afternoons, April can go smaller with winds around 20 to 25knts. Prime time mid Aug to mid Nov on average 7 out of 10 days 20 to 30knts. Lagoon is perfect for beginners and advanced with the surf in the bay cross onshore or cross offshore.
