Beira is the second largest city in Mozambique. It is a fusion of tropical Africa, continental and oriental life. Beira is built on swampy ground at the mouth of the Pungwe River and is quite hot and humid especially in summer. Beira has banks, hotels, restaurants and some interesting shops. One of the most interesting landmarks in Beira is the Cathedral of Beira constructed in part using stone from the historic sixteenth-century fort of Sofala.
