Palmeiras Water Sports Centre offers the widest range of options for divers and non-divers.  Accommodation ranges from camping to beach chalets to private housing all with easy access to our restaurant and bar.  We also offer non-diver packages for the members of the group that would prefer to go out and do walking tours to a turtle sanctuary while others are visiting the ocean.  Did I mention our famous Seahorse Sunset Scuba Tour.

Though you may join us for a dive trip, we know that the clients that come first to us are the ones that stay underwater for more than an hour.  It is our goal to protect, monitor, and preserve them.  Our job is to help you stop by their house and visit them without rearranging their furniture in the process.  We live by the concept of Take only pictures, leave only bubbles.

Our story is simple; we love to dive.  If you share the same passion, then you will understand why two old friends got in a bakkie in Ponta and drove up the coast of Mozambique to find a new location to explore.  After looking at all of the locations we encountered, we knew that Bilene was where we belonged.  We also know that with the number of reef systems to explore, the adventure will continue.

Area Attractions

Turtle Season - Late November to Early February. This is when leatherback and loggerhead turtles come to Bilene to lay eggs. Both species are internationally protected and endangered. Green turtles are local and can be seen year round. The best place to view these magnificent creatures is from the cliff that overlooking "Turtle Bay". It an approximately 20 minute walk down the beach from the mouth and photos are attached.

Whale Season - Late May to Early November. When the winter hits and the waters become colder in South Africa, humpback whales make their migration to the warm waters off of Bilene to have their calves. This is the perfect time to spot whales, as the calves can not hold their breathe very long and must surface for air regularly. If you get very lucky, you may even see a mother carrying her newborn calf on her back above the water.

Seahorses- Year round. The lagoon in Bilene is renown for its seahorses. The local species is the Hippocampus camelopardalis or Giraffe Seahorse. These species are also critically endangered.
