The fully equipped and serviced, self catering beach villas have unrivalled views of Benguerra, Bazaruto and the Magarugue islands: jewels in the Vilanculos archipelago and an international dream destination for diving, snorkelling and fishing.

Chigamane Beach Villas are ten steps away from an endless unspoilt beach: enjoy walking for miles on the undeveloped Indian ocean coastline, resting under the palms, or quietly enjoying the varying delights of the dramatically changing tides. For boating enthusiasts, there is a launch area a stone’s throw from the property.

At sunset, enjoy a cocktail beside the pool, as the Vilanculos coastline settles down for another balmy night. The beauty of a visit to the lodg is its forced relaxation – time is dictated by the tides as the relaxed local rhythm soothes away urban stresses. Re-discover yourself. Spend uninterrupted hours with your partner. Watch your children discover nature at play.

The open loft which sleeps 5, has its own bathroom in one unit and the second unit?s bathroom is currently nearing completion

SELF CATERING GUIDE

Between the local supermarket and the informal market, most necessities can be obtained although the availability of provisions in Vilanculos is never guaranteed. Bring speciality goods with you.
The local Vilanculos bakery bakes bread daily and there is usually a supply of freshly caught fish, crabs and crayfish to be purchased from local fishermen ? try to do this on the beach rather than in town.

Take your own scale with you and watch the packaging of your purchases carefully as local shellfish sellers are extremely adept at false weighing and making the odd crayfish disappear somewhere between purchase and packing!

A visit to the market used by the villagers should be made at least once, to experience local colour and flavour and some good bargains. You will struggle to find fresh milk and eggs.
The water at Chigamane is safe to drink but many visitors prefer to bring bottled water.

Area Attractions

There are a number of things to do in Vilanculos.
A trip on a Dhow is an entertaining experience as you explore the reefs around the islands, look for whale sharks, dugongs and dolphins, enjoy a beach picnic, snorkel and swim. Vilanculos offers horse rides and camel rides. Sea Kayaking and wind surfing are also popular activities.

The beautiful beaches are safe to walk on, and the beach in front Chigamane is one of the nicest in the area and very quiet. This is a prime spot to buy fresh fish from local fishermen, as they anchor all the way along this stretch of beach.

Chigamane beach is ideal for families, as the vast tidal range means calm, shallow water for hundreds of metres, most of the year. However, remain mindful of the tides when boating or sending children to the beach on their own.

Tides come in fast and Spring tides are quite lively! If you are going out on a boat and fancy snorkeling, there are numerous beautiful sites where this can be done.

There are also a few little sand islands which are lovely to just relax on. Again, remember the extreme tides and ensure that you have sufficient suntan lotion and refreshments should you find yourself unexpectedly marooned for a couple of hours.

At Archipelago Sun (in Chibuene) there is a lovely reef right off the beach which is perfect for family snorkelling.

If you are a horse rider, there are horses in the Archipelago. Rides can be arranged for novices and experienced riders: ask our manager to arrange it for you.

Chat to the locals to find out about what is hot and happening in the town in terms of pubs, beach events and the odd volleyball game.
There are a couple of good restaurants in the town where you can enjoy local specialities like Mozambique prawns and fresh-from-the-ocean Portuguese-style Crab dishes.
