Bilene, known as San Martino in the days of Portuguese Mozambique, is located on a hill overlooking the expansive waters of the Uembje Lagoon. The lagoon is a massive body of water 8 km wide and 27 km long, plunging up to depths of 50 meters, but so shallow near the shores that its perfect for children.
